Note #15: Quick update (2008.4.7)

This may be the shortest piece to ever hit the front page of Liminality, but I guess that’s why I started the whole notes thing

That David Guy sent me a brief comment the other day, which read in its entirety: “It’s awfully dusty in here....” Indeed it is. So a quick update on what’s been going on, and then it’s back to the grindstone.

We’re approximately a third of the way through the semester, and things are going well. Over-zealousness and lack of experience (both on my part) made the beginning of the semester a lot harder than it had to be—I assigned too much homework and was spending way too much time outside of class preparing written feedback. At about the time that Kevin posted something about providing a free proofreading service for his students, I came to a similar conclusion regarding my own method. I’ll spare you the gory details, but let’s just say that both my students and I are happier with the new system. I’ll probably write more about this at the end of the semester.

The apartment is finally starting to look like a home. All of the furniture has arrived, and we’ve ordered some pieces that weren’t included but are necessary, at least for us. Again, no details at the moment, but I may post some photos later on, once everything is in place. There are still a few boxes stacked in corners, so we’re not quite there yet.

What’s really keeping me busy at the moment, though, is a paper I have to have finished by this coming Saturday. I will be presenting this paper at a conference at the end of April, and it’s kind of a big deal—it’s a joint conference held by two different societies, and the papers are going to be published in book form after the conference. Oh, speaking of books, there was also a four-volume series published recently to which I contributed a chapter (about a Korean trickster figure). I guess I’ll have more to say about this later as well.

So that’s about it—the very quick, very dirty low-down on what I’ve been up to. Ironically, I’m full of things that I want to write about these days, I just don’t have the time. Once this paper is finished, though, things should calm down a bit. Not that I don’t have a bunch of other things waiting for me on the other side, but at least I should be able to start posting more.

Until then... enjoy the silence.
