This is a corner pillar of Muyrangsu Hall, a hall dedicated to Amitabha Buddha. It is a special type of pillar, called a baeheullim pillar. The pillar grows broader in girth toward the middle and tapers off toward the top and bottom. In Western architecture, this technique is known as entasis.
