There are a lot of places in Hahoe Village where you can try your hand at various activities. The man here is pounding glutinous rice into a paste as the first step in making ddeok, the traditional Korean glutinous rice cake. (Interesting side note: whenever “bread” appears in the English version of the Bible, it appears as “ddeok” in the Korean version—not because ddeok plays the same role in Korean society as bread does in Western society (it doesn’t), but because it was deemed to be the closest analogue. That was a tough translation call.)
