This is the rock from which the temple gets its name. Apparently, when viewed from a certain angle, the rock looks as if it is floating above the rock beneath it. I couldn’t quite find an angle where it looked that way to me, so I just took a photo where you can see the two characters for “floating rock” (read from right to left). So Buseok Temple literally means “Temple of the Floating Rock.”
