Thailand, Part 1: Bangkok

As Bangkok formed the bookends to our trip to Thailand during the winter of 2002-2003, it seemed fitting to start the long-awaited collection of photos with this set.

Bangkok is a city of extremes, with the modern shopping centers of Siam Square on the one hand and the hot, crowded backpackers’ haven of Banglamphu. Being the capital, it has the widest selection of restaurants, and there are far more attractions than we could visit in our short time there.

It is bustling and hectic, though, and it was nice to get away from the city after a few days and relax on the beautiful island of Ko Phi Phi. But when we were finally done with our brief tour of Thailand, it was also waiting for us with its modern amenities and comforts, a welcome change for two weary travelers.
