Not too much farther along, the snow began to cover the trail as well. Here we are nearing the Cheondong Rest Area, which is about four kilometers from the start of the trail and two-thirds of the way to Biro Peak. Hyunjin was already starting to feel the climb, and the extra care required to tread through the snow didn’t help. Yet at this point I was still optimistic. After all, there was only a few centimeters of snow on the trail, and if it continued like this we wouldn’t have any problems. Of course, I had never hiked Mt. Sobaek before, so I had no idea what lay ahead.
