OK, so this is more bug than flower—this bug was nice enough to sit there on the stone leek flower, so I decided to take a picture. I don’t know the official name of this bug, but we always used to call it a “stink bug.” I think that was because they stunk if you stepped on them—at least, that’s what we were told. Thinking about it now, it’s a pretty rotten defense mechanism (what good is the odor after you’re dead?), and I am now convinced that the whole story is just a rumor spread by the stink bugs themselves.
