Gyeongju
On our way down the mountain we stopped at Bulguksa Temple, one of the most famous temples in Korea. Here is Hyun-jin standing in front of the pond in front of the temple. In the background is Haetalgyo, the “Bridge of Deliverance.” Crossing the bridge symbolizes the passage from the secular world to the sacred world. This is a feature of all Korean temples, in fact—there is invariably a pond or other waterway in front of the temple to separate it from the mundane world.
