Hawaii, 2014

It’s hard to capture just how surreal Waikiki is. I knew that it was a huge tourist district, but I wasn’t prepared for how unreal it would all seem. The main drag is plastered with designer shops and popular restaurants—like the Cheesecake Factory where we got a piece of cheesecake the size of my head. It kind of feels like Disneyland for adults, and it appears designed to separate you from your money as quickly and efficiently as possible. I was missing Kihei desperately by this point.
