Hwaseong Fortress in Suwon

On the way down the hill toward the western gate is the northwestern gangnu, which is translated as “angle pavilion.” The Korean guide literature says that gangnu were built on “relatively high strategic points where the fortress wall protrudes,” leading me to believe that the “angle” refers to this salient.

At any rate, this photo was taken from the northwestern gangnu, looking back toward the south and up the hill we had just come down.
