Hwaseong Fortress in Suwon
The northern flood gate is the only surviving flood gate in Hwaseong Fortress. The southern flood gate used to stand to the east of Paldalmun Gate and allowed the waters of Suwoncheon Stream to flow into the fortress. The northern flood gate allows the waters to flow back out again, but I’ve never seen anything more than the trickle you see here. The water levels are much higher during the rainy season, but we’ve never visited during that time.
