Miami, 2016

And this, of course, is the same view at night. I took this photo at around two o’clock in the morning, when I got back from sampling some Miami nightlife. After the conference officially ended, I went out with a group of people (some of whom I knew from previous conferences) to a bar with a hipster vibe and craft beer (which is probably redundant to say). My flight back to Korea left early the next morning, and the shuttle was scheduled to pick me up at the hotel at around half past three in the morning, so I decided to just stay out. We played quite a bit of pool (I teamed up with a grad student from Pakistan; we did well at first, then started getting worse and worse the more we drank) and then the whole crowd picked up and moved to a club a few blocks away. I left shortly before two and managed to find my way back to the hotel, where I took this photo before taking a shower and packing up. I ended up having way too much spare time at the airport, so I spent most of my time chilling out in the restaurant where I had my thoroughly uninspired breakfast. The flight back was, of course, torture.

(If this photo looks a bit off, that’s because it has been heavily ‘shopped. The gradient in the sky created by the city lights compresses really poorly as a JPG, and even at the highest compression rate it turned into jagged, crazy bands that looked horrible. So I masked out the sky and replaced it with something more uniform. Better that than the jagged bands, I figured.)
