Imagery
When I was out shooting the previous photos I spotted some great egrets in the waterway that runs down the center of the valley. I had always just called this a crane (hak in Korean), but after some research it appears that it is in fact a great (white) egret.
Technically speaking, it’s not the best shot. I’ve tried to photograph egrets before, and they never come out right. I think it might be that they are so bright compared to their surroundings that they get overexposed. On traditional film, there would be some salvagable image information, but on digital you lose anything that goes above white. I tried messing around with the layers a bit, and I was able to tone down the beak and eye area a bit, but the rest of the body is beyond hope. Honestly, I’m not sure how to do this so that both the egret and the background are properly exposed.
