This is Kabukiza, described in the caption to the previous photo. You can buy tickets here for one act (rather than the whole play), and this is what we did. It was an interesting cultural experience, and I was able to catch some of the Japanese and figure out basically what was going on, but it’s not the most exciting of art forms. During a break about an hour in we left the theater, thinking that the first act was over. Then we found out that there was still a half hour to go, but we decided to skip it. The seating was very cramped and uncomfortable up in the balcony, and we wanted to be out in the open again.
