John Ashcroft was visiting the temple at the same time we were and decided that these little statues didn’t have enough clothing. I kid. I’ve seen similar things done in Thailand, where they dress statues of the Buddha depending on the time of the year (apparently he gets cold in the winter, despite the fact that everyone else is sweating bullets), but I’m not sure if that’s what is going on here.
