This is a tiki from New Zealand. It was a popular lantern, and I had to wait a while before I got the chance to throw down my tripod and snap this photo. Stone and wood tiki statues are common in New Zealand, but the color of this lantern seems to represent the jade tiki pendants worn by tribal chiefs in New Zealand. (No, I did not just happen to know this—the New Zealand ambassador to Korea and his wife study Korean at Hyunjin’s school.)
